Role of Za‘frān in the Prevention and Control of NCDs: A Review

Abstract
<p><strong>Background: </strong>Saffron, a natural substance, has been traditionally used for centuries to address a range of disorders. It is obtained from the dried stigmas of the Crocus sativus plant, belonging to the Iridaceae family.</p>
<p><strong>Objective:</strong> To explore the role of saffron in preventing and managing non-communicable diseases (NCDs).</p>
<p><strong>Methods</strong>: By exploring Unani classical books, NCBI articles, PubMed, Google Scholar, etc.</p>
<p><strong>Results</strong>: The results illustrated the role of<em> Za‘frān </em>as <em>Dāfi‘-i-Tashannuj</em> (anti-spasmodic), <em>Dāfi‘-i-Maraḍ-i-Alzhā’imar</em> (anti-alzheimer), <em>Dāfi‘-i-Afsurdagī</em> (anti-depressant), <em>Dāfi‘-i-Siman Mufriṭ</em> (anti-obesity), hypoglycemic and <em>Dāfi‘-i-Maraḍ Dhayābīṭus</em> (anti-diabetic) effects, besides other functions.</p>
<p><strong>Conclusion</strong>: This study suggests that saffron, due to its diverse medicinal benefits, could play a significant role in the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases.</p>
