Agility And Motor Flexibility and Their Relationship to The Accuracy of Goal-Scoring from A Standing Position in Football Among Students

Abstract

This study aims to identify the relationship between agility, motor flexibility, and goal-scoring accuracy from a standing position in soccer among students of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Babylon. The importance of the study lies in the fact that agility helps a player change their body direction quickly and efficiently during shooting, while flexibility contributes to increasing the range of motion and reducing muscle tension, leading to improved goal-scoring accuracy. The study followed a descriptive approach and included a sample of 38 students out of 150, representing 25% of the original population. The study used validated measurement tools, including an agility test (zigzag running test), a flexibility test (sit and bend forward), and a goal-scoring accuracy test from a distance of 25 meters. The results showed a strong correlation between both agility (r = 0.85) and motor flexibility (r = 0.91) and goal-scoring accuracy, indicating that improving these two skills effectively contributes to raising students' level of performance in goal-scoring. Statistical analysis also showed that flexibility has a greater impact than agility in developing scoring accuracy. The study recommended the inclusion of agility and flexibility exercises in training programs, as well as analyzing each player's performance individually to identify weaknesses and work to improve them.
