Abstract

Technology can play a critical role in evolving gender equality, particularly in making cyberspace safe for women. On the other hand, women’s empowerment plays a crucial role in the overall development of any society. Digital evolution is a game changer across all spheres of development but technological advances risk perpetuating existing inequality. Women and girls need equitable internet access, online safety, and educational opportunities to ensure an inclusive digital evolution. The present study aimed to explore four areas: the present condition of women’s empowerment in the light of technological usage, the gap in technology use based on gender and geographic area, cyber threats faced by women, and prevention measures of cyber security for women. It is a purely qualitative and content-based review and analytical study.  A systematic and thorough review has been done. It has been identified that there is a large gap between urban and rural women in terms of technology usage. Despite the promises of digital evolution, rural women still do not have the same access to information and technology, as urban women in India. Educational programs, workshops, and online resources can be organized and created to provide women with the necessary information and tools to navigate the digital world safely. Social media platforms, online petitions, and blogs can all become powerful tools for women to voice their opinions and advocate for change. The present review pesters that traditional gender roles can be challenged by providing women with access to new technologies and opportunities.  Online Communities can be created to bring women together and provide a self-space where they can share their stories and support each other. The study also reaffirms that Governments and policymakers must collaborate to develop laws and regulations that specifically address gender-based violence on the Internet. The power of digital evolution implementing measures such as education and awareness, strong cyber-security, reporting mechanisms, legal protections, and community support, can create a more -equal and just society for women both online and offline.
