Abstract

Higher education plays a significant role in the social, economic and intellectual development of a nation. The quality of higher education has become a major concern in India due to rapid expansion, globalisation, and changing educational demands. Teaching, learning and evaluation are the three fundamental pillars of the educational process that collectively contribute toward quality enhancement in higher education institutions.

The present study focuses on the importance of adopting a holistic framework involving effective teaching methodologies, learner-centred approaches and continuous evaluation systems for improving the quality of higher education, particularly in the state of Uttarakhand. The study is descriptive and analytical in nature and is based on secondary data collected from books, journals, government reports, research papers and educational policy documents.

The paper highlights the transition from traditional teacher-centred education to learner-centred education and emphasises the role of innovative teaching strategies, experiential learning and continuous evaluation in achieving academic excellence. The study further discusses the challenges faced by higher education institutions in Uttarakhand, including geographical barriers, infrastructural limitations and accessibility issues. The paper concludes that quality enhancement in higher education requires coordinated efforts involving teachers, learners, administrators and policymakers. A holistic educational approach can contribute significantly toward inclusive, sustainable and skill-oriented higher education in India.
