Abstract

E-commerce's rapid expansion has completely changed the retail scene by providing customers with accessibility, variety, and convenience. However, worries about data security and privacy have also increased as a result of this digital transition. Consumers are more vulnerable to financial fraud, identity theft, and data leaks as a result of the rise in online transactions. This study examines the crucial role cyber security plays in online buying, highlighting the difficulties customers encounter and the tactics used by companies to safeguard private data. The influence of major cyber security risks on trust among consumers and purchase behaviour is investigated, including phishing attempts, malware, and fraudulent payments. This study also explores how well security features like encryption, multi-factor authentication, and AI-powered fraud detection protect customer information. In order to evaluate their function in upholding safety measures in the online marketplace, regulatory frameworks such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as well as additional data protection legislation are also examined. This study intends to offer insights into raising awareness about cyber security and creating a more secure online shopping environment by examining both customer views and industry best practices. The results will further knowledge of how companies may put strong cyber security safeguards in place to secure customer data and foster customer trust. In the end, this study emphasizes how critical it is to keep improving cyber security in order to counter new threats in the dynamic environment of digital commerce.
